George Post Photography - Uniformity and Arrangement of Jury Images

GEORGE POST PHOTOGRAPHY - THE IMPORTANCE OF UNIFORMITY and IMAGE ARRANGEMENT:

A jury submission, whether slides, prints, or digital,

will be greatly weakened if the photographs vary greatly from one another. A unified presentation is highly desirable, and matching backgrounds are especially important. Attention must also be given to the arrangement of the selected images during the actual application procedure. Your first image should be a real "grabber," and if possible the last one should somehow re-direct the viewers' attention back towards the overall group.

When you apply to a show using ZAPP®, at one point you are given an opportunity to rearrange your chosen portfolio images for optimal symmetry and visual flow; however, certain web browsers with "hard" caches (such as Safari & Firefox) will not permit this. To be sure you will be able to arrange your images, use Internet Explorer when actually applying to shows through ZAPP®.

Here are five jury shots and a booth image, made for the ZAPP® portfolio of Angelika Brennecke and carefully arranged for pleasing overall symmetry and balance:

Here's another example of a nice uniform group of images made for the ZAPP® portfolio of Lynne Meade in which the images are carefully arranged for optimal visual balance:

Note that the square tile image is so different from the other shots that its squareness and lack of black borders are not problematic. Clearly, also, it works best in the bottom center position.
